Introduction

Leaders from five of Rockford’s premier performing arts organizations have come together to initiate the Rockford Performing Arts Alliance (RPA Alliance), a groundbreaking approach to nonprofit arts funding. Modeled after the successful Quad Cities Cultural Trust, this initiative will provide long-term sustainability and growth for the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Starlight Theatre, Rockford Dance Company, Artists' Ensemble Theater, and The West Side Show Room, securing a vibrant future for Rockford’s performing arts.

A well-funded performing arts scene will spark a cultural renaissance in Rockford—fueling creativity, driving economic growth, and inspiring future generations. By elevating the city’s cultural profile, increasing tourism, and creating jobs, the RPA Alliance will transform Rockford into a vibrant destination where people want to visit, settle, and invest.

Need

The fundraising landscape for the performing arts is rapidly changing. Historically, organizations relied on corporate sponsorships and patronage to bridge the gap between ticket sales and production costs— but these sources are declining nationwide. As audiences shift away from season tickets and competition for limited grant funds intensifies, many organizations are left fighting for survival. This leaves little capacity to focus on mission growth, community outreach, and job creation, putting Rockford’s rich performing arts assets at risk.

Solution

Proactively establishing a $25 million trust will provide a reliable, robust, and sustainable source of operating revenue to ensure the growth and long-term stability of Rockford’s deeply rooted 501(c)(3) performing arts organizations.
